Reply to "Adding a Prefix"

      Thanks Alicia for your tip. Databases are an amazing tool, once you've mastered them, but that takes time. If anyone needs a more detail description of how to do what Alicia did, then let me know.

Adding a Prefix

     I had a table full of over 100 documents and my boss came to me and told me that we had to add a prefix to all the document numbers such as "1866". In order to fill this tall order I used an update query and in the "Update To" row of the field that held all the document numbers, I used this syntax. "1866"[NameOfField]

     This worked perfectly and added the numeric prefix of 1866 to the beginning of the over 100 document numbers in my database. What once was a daunting task, was suddenly overcome with some knowledge that I have now learnt and certainly won't forget for next time.

     I just thought I'd share this experience with you as when I found the correct advice and knowledge to be able to perform this task and do it successfully, I then realized how powerful and incredibly awesome databases can be. I have so much more to learn and realize that I am only on the edge of the pool.
